At the interview you need to make a good impression to impress the employer and show you are the best person for the job. To do this, we have put together a list of things you should and shouldn’t do at a job interview.
Do:
- Offer a firm handshake
- Smile
- Be polite, friendly and look the interviewer in the eye (but try not to stare)
- Dress smartly and conservatively
- Bring a pen and small notebook
- Prepare yourself with knowledge about the Company, the industry and the position
- Prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer
- Display self confidence
- Tell the truth
Do not:
- Be late
- Criticise past employers, keep your answers positive
- Swear – even mildly
- Interrupt
- Interview the interviewer
- Argue or be overaggressive, take criticism gracefully
- Show a lack of interest or enthusiasm
- Be too personal or familiar
- Attend the interview unless you are genuinely interested in the position
